Keep your pets safe during the dog days of SUMMER with these simple tips plus frozen treat recipes!
Pets can be affected by the hot weather just like people.
Follow these simple guidelines to keep them cool and comfortable all summer long.
- Watch for signs of heat stroke- excessive panting, drooling, fever, vomiting and collapse. Senior pets and short-nosed breeds including Bulldogs, Shih Tzus, Pugs and Pekingese are more susceptible.
- Provide your pets with extra water.
- Give your pets multiple ways to cool off including fans, access to cooler places in the house, ice cubes and frozen treats.
- Take your walks and have play times in the mornings and evenings when the temperatures are cooler.
- Check on your pets frequently if you leave them outside alone.
- Never leave your pets alone in the car.
- For some breeds, shorter haircuts and frequent brushing may help.
Popsicles for your pets can be made out of many ingredients and combinations. Here are some ideas to get you started.
Make sure to avoid onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, avocado and artificial sweeteners.
